Sugar of Lead Poison Label - Wolgamot's

This poisonous white solid, known as Lead Acetate, was used in dyeing cotton and in making enamels and varnishes. It is made by treating Lead Oxide with acetic acid.Like other lead compounds, it is very toxic. Lead acetate is soluble in water and glycerin. Sugar of lead has also been used to treat poison ivy, as an astringent in diarrhea, and as a wet dressing in certain dermatitis’s. This label, clearly marked Poison with a skull and crossbones, measures 2.625” Wide x 1.375” High. It is from Wolgamot’s Drug Store which was the Rexall Store in Richwood, Ohio.
