You get two (2) embossed and gilded cigar bands from the 1920s which read "Rudolph Valentino Quality Cigar". His untimely death probably explains why these labels were never used and they have become difficult to find.

Rudolph Valentino arrived in New York City in 1913, as an 18-year-old immigrant from Italy, without speaking a word of English. He could only land jobs like gardening and dishwashing. His good looks came to his rescue when he became a dancer in New York nightclubs and was, in fact, a gigolo for lonely society women. He was led ultimately to Hollywood where he sarted his film career. Post-war women went crazy for his dark, mysterious looks, and the wanton way the sheik treated the heroine, both in sharp contrast to the "boy next door" films of the time. He was idolized by the female fans of the 1920's like Elvis was in the 1950’s. At public appearances, fans mobbed him and Valentino was receiving about 10,000 fan letters per week.

Valentino's last film, and one of his best, was Son of the Sheik. While on a promotional tour, he collapsed at a party in New York with appendicitis and a ruptured ulcer. One week later he died of blood poisoning. When his female fans got word of his impending death, the hospital received 2000 calls per hour. One week later on August 23, 1926 Valentino died of peritonitis from a perforated ulcer at the age of 31. The nation was in shock and there were riots at the funeral home, as fans charged past police to see the body. When Domenick went to register his new company, which would be producing Prospect Hill Ginger Ale, the Clerk at the Secretary of State’s office suggested that they use a shorter name and asked, “Isn’t that where the Tower is?” Tower Ginger Ale was born. With prohibition of the 1920s, Root Beer was a cool, thirst quenching drink on a hot day and quickly became a substitute for beer that was no longer available.
During the early stages of the company, Domenick realized the success of other "tonic" companies was attained by specializing in one product. He decided to organize his company in the same way, specializing in root beer. At the time, drinks like root beer and ginger beer were usually home made. With the assistance of a local pharmacist, Domenick tinkered with his root beer recipe to come up with a distinctive product. In the beginning all of the drinks were bottled in clear glass bottles, but because of Prohibition beer breweries closed there doors. One local brewery had a warehouse full of 7 ounce beer bottles and Domenick volunteered to remove them. Tower Root Beer’s brown bottles were born.
After World War II, Domenick’s three sons (Richard, Jack and Paul) took over the management of the company. However, in 1969 the company was sold to a conglomerate of soft drink companies and the family business was dissolved. For the past thirty years, Tower Root Beer's recipe has stayed under lock and key, until Dominick's grandson, Larry Cusolito, decided to re-introduce Tower Root Beer to the New England region. He couldn’t start, however, until he located his grandfather’s original hand written recipe which was stored with his grandmother’s birth certificate.

WE GUARANTEE ALL LABELS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!

$0.75

Eventually, nearly 12,000 people worked in the more than 200 cigar factories that were established in what was known as Ybor City, the “Cigar Capital of the World”. Most of the residents of Ybor City made their living making cigars or found jobs in a cigar-related trade. Some made cigar boxes or cigar bands, others owned restaurants where fans of “No Smoking“ signs were refused service. The Great Depression, the popularity of cigarettes, the emergence of organized crime, and the creation of cigar-rolling machinery all led to Ybor City’s demise. This was made even worse when machine made cigars owners started a “spit campaign,” a campaign promoting the idea that saliva from the cigar rollers was incorporated into a finished cigar. This drastically hurt the hand rolling cigar business and by the 1930s, as machines replaced workers and Cubans went back to their homeland, Ybor City lost its place as the cigar capital.

WE GUARANTEE ALL LABELS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!

$2.75
